Story

The story begins in Littleroot Town in the Hoenn region, where the player has recently moved. After settling in, the player meets their neighbor, who becomes their rival and is the son/daughter of the famous Professor Birch. Shortly after, the player encounters Professor Birch, who is being attacked by a wild Pokemon and needs help. The player swiftly steps in and helps the professor using one of the beginner Pokemon. As a token of gratitude, Professor Birch gifts that Pokemon to the player as their starter.

Later, in the lab, Professor Birch suggests that the player meet his son/daughter to learn the basics of becoming a Pokemon trainer. Following this advice, the player meets their rival, receives a Pokédex and Poké Balls from the professor, and begins their journey to become the best Pokemon trainer.

The player explores the Hoenn region, battles eight Gym Leaders, and engages with various NPCs, including rival battles. Along the way, they must thwart the nefarious plans of Team Aqua and Team Magma to protect the region from impending danger. Finally, after overcoming all challenges, the player becomes strong enough to defeat the current Champion, Wallace, and claim the title of Hoenn Champion.
