Pokemon Quetzal Features

Pokemon Quetzal is a Pokemon Emerald ROM hack by TenmaRH for the Game Boy Advance. Version 0.9.1 includes three complete regions, optional multiplayer and a Pokemon roster covering Generations 1–9 plus the Generation 10 starters. You can play on PC or Android through a GBA emulator.

Choose your starting region and character, play alone or with friends, and select your game mode and difficulty. The game is fully available in English, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese (PT-BR). Visit the Pokemon Quetzal download page for the current release and GBA emulator setup instructions.

Features in Detail

1. Three Complete Regions and a Choice of Starting Region

You can begin in Kanto, Johto or Hoenn. All three regions are complete, with three different Pokemon Leagues to finish.

Starting a Region: CURRENT, NEW or NEW + PC

When starting a region, choose between CURRENT, NEW or NEW + PC. You can decide separately whether to keep or reserve your items and money. CURRENT suggests enabling level scaling and disabling the level cap, but both settings can still be changed.

Switch Between Adventures Through MISC → TRAVEL

You can start another region and switch between different adventures without first completing all of their Leagues. Use MISC → TRAVEL. Introduction requirements and restrictions related to locations and events still apply.

TRAVEL remembers a safe outdoor position for each adventure so you can return to where you left it. When that position cannot be used, the game uses the corresponding healing point instead.

Shared or Independent Teams and Resources

Adventures can share your party, Day Care, Bag and money, or keep them separate. When you return to an adventure, its corresponding party is restored. After completing the League, the corresponding resources are merged with those from previously completed regions.

Clearer Regional Menus

Help messages, summaries, confirmations and other messages explain what you keep, what remains reserved and why travel is unavailable in certain situations. These additions are available in all three languages. Reading screens use a neutral, static background.

2. Pokemon Through Generation 9, Plus Generation 10 Starters

All Pokemon from Bulbasaur through Pecharunt can be caught, including Pokemon introduced in the Generation 9 DLCs. The Generation 10 starters are also included. Arceus is obtainable too, and the creator describes it as the hardest Pokemon to obtain.

Each region has its own complete National Pokedex, with the full roster available to catch in that region. For example, there is a Mewtwo in Kanto, another in Johto and another in Hoenn.

3. Regional Pokemon Forms

The roster includes Alolan, Galarian, Hisuian and Paldean forms alongside the other Pokemon.

4. Up to Six Following Pokemon

Choose how many of your party Pokemon follow you around the map, from zero to six.

• The follower system covers all Pokemon from Generations 1–9.
• Supported forms include Alolan, Galarian and Hisuian forms, Mega Evolutions, Gigantamax and Tera forms, and Ash-Greninja.
• A shiny Pokemon also uses its shiny appearance when following you.
• Pokemon can follow you in multiplayer as well.

5. 113 Playable Human Characters

Choose from 113 human characters, with male and female characters from the Pokemon games and anime, including Red, Ash, Oak, Cynthia, Leon and Nemona. The available character choices are listed by region below.

Kanto

Red, Ash, Green, Oak, Giovanni, Leaf, Rocket (boy), Blue, Brock, Koga, James, Joy, Janine, Sabrina, Agatha, Misty, Jessie, Rocket (girl).

Johto

Gold, Lance, Silver, Crystal, Lyra, Morty, Clair, Whitney.

Hoenn

Brendan, May, Steven, Magma (girl), Birch, Wally, Maxie, Wallace, Helena, Archie, Courtney, Lucy, Shelly, Zinnia.

Sinnoh

Dawn, Lucas, Rei, Cynthia, Adaman, Cyrus, Akari, Irida, Mars, Arezu.

Unova

6. Switch Between Characters Anytime

Change your character anytime and anywhere. For example, you can start as Ash and switch to Red or another character whenever you want.

7. Play as Any Pokemon

You are not limited to a human character. All Pokemon can also be selected as playable characters, separate from the Pokemon that follow you.

8. 84 Starter Pokemon Options

Choose from 84 starter Pokemon. Version 0.9.1 adds eight options, bringing the total from 76 to 84.

The new starters are sorted by Pokedex order on their respective pages. These starter-selection pages are available when choosing a starter in any of the three playable regions.

Choose the Number of Random Starters

Select 1, 3 or ALL random starters. This choice takes priority over the Wild Pokémon limitation, and Chaos does not change the selected amount.

9. 113 Battle Helpers

The helper system uses the same 113 characters as the human playable-character roster. Each helper has a different team, and you can ask them to help in battle.

10. Optional Multiplayer for Up to Four Players

You can play Pokemon Quetzal alone or with up to three other players. Multiplayer is optional and supports 1–4 players in total.

• See other players moving around the map.
• Start single, double or multi battles with other players from anywhere.
• Team up with another player against the game’s trainers, including Gym Leaders.
• Trade Pokemon from anywhere.

Multiplayer battles support Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, Dynamax, Gigantamax and Terastallization.

11. Updated Battle Mechanics and Items

The battle system is updated through Generation 9, and all items through Generation 9 are included.

Available battle mechanics include Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, Dynamax, Gigantamax and Terastallization. Mega Evolutions from Pokemon Legends Z-A are included too.

12. DexNav for Finding Pokemon

DexNav helps you find Pokemon and see their exact locations in the wild.

13. Redesigned Daycare and a Separate Egg Box

The daycare is accessed through the PC and has room for up to six Pokemon.

• Place up to six Pokemon in daycare.
• See the Pokemon you placed there on the map.
• Use a separate box for up to 30 eggs.
• Eggs do not need to occupy party slots to hatch.

14. Visible Wild Pokemon in the Overworld

Wild Pokemon roam visibly around the map instead of appearing only through random encounters in the grass.

15. EXP Share and Free Leveling

EXP Share All distributes experience across your team so you can train your Pokemon together.

Antigrind: POKÉMON → TRAIN → LEVEL UP

The POKÉMON → TRAIN → LEVEL UP option provides free leveling. It uses the Maxicaramelo criteria to determine the available level and allows the Pokemon to evolve afterward. This option remains available after completing the League.

16. Access the PC Anywhere

Open the PC from anywhere to switch Pokemon and prepare your team for battles.

17. Teleport to Places You Have Visited

The teleport system works like Fly, taking you to towns and cities you have already visited.

18. 30 Quests with Item Rewards

Complete 30 quests to earn special items.

19. Ride Pokemon and Choose a Starting Bicycle

You can ride any Pokemon as a mount, using it to travel much like a bicycle.

A separate option lets you receive the regular Bicycle when starting your adventure or obtain it normally during the story.

20. Post-Game Legendary Pokemon Hunting

After becoming Champion, you can hunt Legendary Pokemon in the post-game.

21. PC Storage for 2,010 Pokemon

The PC has 67 boxes with 30 slots each, providing 2,010 Pokemon storage slots. The separate 30-egg box is described in the daycare section above.

22. Practically Unlimited Bag Storage

The bag has practically unlimited storage space for items.

23. Three Shiny Variants and Adjustable Shiny Rates

Every Pokemon has three different shiny variants, described as radiant Pokemon.

You can select the shiny/radiant probability from six settings: Very Low, Low, Normal, High, Very High and Always. The Always setting makes every Pokemon shiny.

24. Normal, Random, Cheats and Nuzlocke Modes

Available game modes include Normal, Random, Cheats and Nuzlocke.

25. Five Difficulty Levels

Difficulty is a separate choice from the game mode. The five levels are Very Easy, Easy, Normal, Hard and Very Hard.

In the tutorial battle against Blue in the laboratory, his Squirtle is level 2 on every difficulty. This change applies only to that specific battle.

26. Repeatable Trainer Battles

The rematch system lets you battle the game’s trainers as many times as you want.

27. Move Tutor in the Party Menu

Teach Pokemon new moves through the move tutor in the party menu.

28. Respawning Items and Berries

Items and berries respawn after a while, allowing you to collect them again.

29. HMs Are Not Required

Hidden Machines (HMs) are not required to progress.
